F e n g S h u iFeng Shui is the practice of balancing our physical environments to bring positive change into our lives. When our living, working and resting spaces are in balance, positive universal energy (ch’i) can flow gently and freely, opening the door for positive changes to occur. Using the tools of Feng Shui, we can balance and enhance the universal elements in our external world to manifest our desires. There are two main schools of Feng Shui: The Compass School and the Form School. I practice a Western interpretation of Form School Feng Shui, as taught by Terah Kathryn Collins, a Feng Shui practitioner, author, educator and founder of the Western School of Feng Shui™ in Solana Beach, California. The Form School philosophy centers on three main concepts:
The Form School utilizes a framework, called the bagua, to locate the places in your environment that resonate with different aspects of your life: career, self-growth, health and family, prosperity, reputation, relationships, creativity and action in the world. The bagua (which derives from the I-Ching, the Chinese Book of Changes) is literally a map (gua) divided into 8 (ba) areas with a center. Each of the eight areas represents one of these life aspects. The essential tools of Feng Shui, which include balancing the yin-yang and five natural elements, are applied in each area to encourage the flow of energy (ch’i). Live with what you love; use what you have. One of the unique aspects of using Feng Shui to enhance your environment is that it does not usually require you to purchase anything new. In fact, the opposite is true. Invariably, applying Feng Shui principles to your environment involves removing things to unblock energy, moving things to areas where they are activated to help you achieve your goals, and creating spaces for things that you love. In today’s world, the practice of Feng Shui aligns with living a life that consumes less fossil fuel energy by tapping into the universal ch’i that is available to everyone. |
