Feng Shui musings on top of a 14er

Earth and sky are a classic example of the yin and yang of Feng Shui and no more perfectly seen in balance than at daybreak on a trail in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. If you are lucky enough to live in Colorado you will know about our amazing mountains over 14,000 feet high. We call them the 14ers and there are 54 of them – some of the highest peaks in our nation and our continent.

In my vacation (Feng Shui) “element” — Water

The five elements of Feng Shui play out wherever we are – whether we’re at home or traveling and staying in new places. They make up the energy of everything – both yin and yang. The elements are Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood and are expressed in a variety of ways. In places where the elements are balanced, we feel more relaxed; we let our guard down; we allow ourselves to explore new feelings and new ways of being. We’re open – not defensive. A place that brings us balance is the kind of place we often choose for vacation – a place to fill up with renewing energy so that we can return to work and go about our business of living.

Principles of Feng Shui are usually applied to external spaces, but you can use them on internal spaces, too, like clearing mental clutter. What do we know about clutter from Feng Shui? It rushes and depletes energy; it blurs focus; it confuses and obscures. All the things that clutter does to energy in our homes and offices, it does in our brains, too.

Put Your House on a Feng Shui Diet in 2010

I know that this month the parking lot will be full at the fitness club. All the people who resolved to work-out to lose weight and be healthy will be there and that’s a good thing. I applaud them and anyone who begins a new regime because there is powerful energy in beginnings. We save January to start that project because there is just something about this month that inspires the grand gesture. So here’s my suggestion for a grand gesture to begin and you don’t even have to go out into the cold to get started: put your house on work-out schedule to lose weight: clean out your closets, your storage shed, and your garage.

Here's a Feng Shui "app" for the Holidays!

If you have seen the television ads for Apple’s i-Phone®, you probably know that “app” stands application, e.g., a software program on your phone to a) find anything or any person, any place, any where, b) help you tweet, blog, post on a wall or e-mail, c) keep you from (gasp) your own thoughts, and possibly boredom, with games, puzzles, etc., d) get you onto the world wide web to solve any problem with a massive search engine or e) buy something. Oh, and of course, you could make a phone call.
